Lisa Kubo breaks the 7-second Pro FWD E.T. Barrier

April 28, 2004 - Lisa Kubo and the Saturn Motorsports/APC/Valvoline/Cooper Tire/HPC Saturn Ion shattered the 7-second Pro Front Wheel Drive record on Saturday, April 17 with the first 7-second run by a front wheel drive vehicle.

Lisa had already established the National E.T. record at the Nitto Tires NHRA Sport Compact Nationals in Fontana, CA in March with a run of 8.028 seconds @ 186.12 MPH, but was determined to be the first in the 7's at the BFGoodrich Tires NHRA Sport Compact Nationals in Palm Beach, FL. Qualifying in the #1 slot at 7.963 and 183.86 MPH, Lisa backed-up the record shattering run with a 8.003 @ 186.87 MPH in the finals, beating rival Nelson Hoyos and winning her third straight national event in a row. At all three of the last events Lisa has set low E.T. for the event, set a new national elapsed time record, qualified first, and won the event.

Gary Kubo, Lisa's husband and crew chief, commented that the only changes made to the car was the addition of HPC HiPerCoat Extreme coated exhaust header and turbine housing. Gary said "where the engine before would not build full boost in second gear, with the coated header and turbo we were not only building full boost but were experiencing tire spin." and "the car has picked-up five to six mile per hour at the top end of the track."

HPC congratulates Lisa, Gary, and the whole Saturn Motorsports team for their record setting performance and efforts. HPC is proud to be associated with Saturn Motorsports, the Eplers, and the Kudos.
