Kurt Johnson Gets a Big Win in Las Vegas
|April 9, 2006
Las Vegas, NV – In the world of high speed racing, High Performance Coatings, Inc. has a name that is synonymous with winning. We don’t worry about keeping up with the Joneses. We lead the way.
Keeping up with the Johnsons, however, is another matter.
On April 9th, 2006 at Firebird International Raceway, HPC-sponsored Kurt Johnson and the ACDelco Cobalt Racing team scored an exciting and important victory on Sunday. Johnson and his team took home the Pro Stock title at the Summitracing.com NHRA Nationals in Las Vegas, NV. Qualifying sixth, Johnson went on to defeat Mike Edwards, Erica Enders and Jason Line in the earlier rounds before facing David Connolly in the final.
Although Connolly gained a slight advantage at the start in the most tightly contested race of the day, Johnson was able to chase him down. With his 6.842-second, 202.42 mph pass, Johnson crossed the line just three thousandths of a second ahead of his opponent.
Son of world famous driver and six-time NHRA Pro Stock champion Warren Johnson (also sponsored by HPC), Kurt Johnson’s win in Vegas was his first of the 2006 season. It marked the 33rd of his career, and his second at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The win also allowed him to climb back into contention for a POWERade championship.
HPC began working with Kurt’s father, Warren, over ten years ago. Our coatings helped power the senior Johnson to six NHRA Pro Stock championships and over 96 career wins. When Kurt began his career in the Pro Stock field, HPC was excited for the opportunity to work with the young driver. This partnership has led to over 30 major race wins and 418 career round wins, including 61 appearances in the final round.
