Buddy Lazier takes 5th in 89th Indy 500

May 31, 2005 - Buddy Lazier managed to pull-off a 5th place finish at the 89th running of the Indy 500 on May 29 despite a damaged front wing that was broken in three places and a crash during practice on Friday.

Panther Racing was having a great day with all three cars (#2 Tomas Enge, #4 Thomas Scheckter, and #95 Lazier) running in the top ten and Lazier setting one of the fastest laps of the race at 226.930 on lap 123, when Enge and Scheckter were caught-up in an incident with Jeff Bucknum and  Danica Patrick on lap 155, effective taking both out of the race.  Enge would finish the race 19th and Scheckter 20th.

Lazier had qualified 9th at 226.353 MPH for the race, Enge qualified 10th at 226.107 MPH, and Scheckter had qualified 11th at 226.031 MPH.

Working with the Panther Racing team, HPCs owner, Jeff Holm, spent most of Friday and all of Saturday rebuilding Laziers #95 Panther/Jonathan Byrds/ESPN 950AM car after a crash during Fridays practice session.

HPC provides various coatings and engineering support for the Panther team.
