Vitor Meira Finishes in Top-Ten at Indy

HPC-Sponsored Vitor Meira of Team Panther Comes in 10th at 90th Indianapolis 500.

Indianapolis, IN (May 30, 2006) – Vitor Meira of HPC-sponsored Team Panther Racing finished 10th at the 90th Indianapolis 500. Meira completed all 200 laps of the race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday to finish 17.9554 seconds behind race winner Sam Hornish, Jr. Meira was the 2005 Indianapolis 500 runner-up and started this year’s race in the 6th position. Sunday marked his third consecutive top-ten finish and the 30th of his career.

“We got two laps behind after some bad luck early,” Meira commented after the race. “(T)hat’s not easy to overcome here at Indianapolis. I think it says a lot about how great this team was on strategy. We took 100% of what we had, and we’ve still only been together for three months now, and we’re racing against a lot of people that have been working together for several years. I got overwhelmed when we crossed the tunnel here and I saw the crowd and everybody cheering. It’s a big deal, and it’s really good to be here. The car was really quick for me at the end, and honestly, I can’t wait to come back here again next year with Panther Racing.”

HPC began working with Team Panther in 1999. The international coatings company worked closely with the team’s engineers to utilize HPC’s HiperCoat Extreme™ exhaust coating for heat management and HPC’s friction reducing coatings on internal engine parts to maximize engine and car performance. HPC coatings have been used by 14 Indianapolis 500 winners and helped power 2006 Indy 500 winner Sam Hornish, Jr. to his two IRL Championships in 2001 and 2002.

“HPC coatings are continually used on some of the world’s fastest cars,” said Paul Clayson, CEO of HPC. “With technology advances, internal and external engine temperatures have risen significantly. HPC continues to be the market leader in innovation of coatings solutions that benefit performance racing and consumer applications”.

Born in Brazil, Meira began driving in the IRL in 2002 for Andretti/Green Racing team. The next year he signed on with Rahal Letterman Racing where he was awarded the inaugural IRL Rising Star award.  In 2005 he signed on with Team Panther and has continued to move up in the league rankings. He is considered a favorite to win the Watkins Glen Indy Grand Prix race this Sunday in upstate New York.

HPC congratulates Vitor Meira and Team Panther racing for their 10th place finish at the 90th Indianapolis 500.
