Solid Dry Film Coating

Valve springs create tremendous amounts of heat from friction as they are coiled and uncoiled. This, in turn, heats the surrounding oil, reducing its lubricating ability. Our research shows that high ramp cam speeds, combined with inadequate heat-quench from oil, cause valve spring failure. This results in rapid seat pressure loss.

HPC has developed a wettable-matrix coating called SDF-1. When applied to valve springs and piston skirts it lowers the coefficient of friction and helps oil cling to the treated components. This also lowers oil temperature by as much as 10 degrees. It is not uncommon to double valve spring life with this HPC coating. The same wettable-matrix coating is effective on piston skirts. Clearance changes are not needed.
