Land Speed Record Holder Dies at Age 63

December 20, 2002 – Land speed record holder, Don Vesco, died Monday, December 16, 2002 at the Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego, CA of prostate cancer. Don was 63.

Among Don’s long list of achievements, he is the current land speed record holder for wheel-driven vehicles with a speed of 458.44 MPH. Don is also the only person in history to hold both the motorcycle and automotive land speed records and is a three time recipient of the HOT ROD Magazine Top Speed Trophy. Don was inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1999.
